What it’s like

A free park playground and splash play area in Cardiff, good for a couple of hours with kids up to about 12.

The playground here is built with a decent age range in mind, up to around 12, so you're not stuck watching a toddler slide while your eight-year-old gets bored. There's a multi use games area and tennis courts too if you've got kids who want a proper kickabout rather than just the swings.

The splash play area is the bit they'll ask to go back to. It runs from 11am to 6.45pm in term time and school holidays, and there's a quieter relaxed session from 10 to 11am for children with additional needs, though you do need to book that one in advance and it's free. Worth knowing the splashpad shuts in bad weather, so don't plan a whole day around it if the forecast looks dodgy.

The park itself opens at 7.30am and stays open until half an hour before sunset, which is generous if you fancy an early start before the crowds turn up. There's on-site food, baby changing and toilets, so a morning or afternoon here works without much planning.

Parking is the one faff. There's no dedicated car park, just on-road parking on the surrounding streets, so if you're driving in on a sunny splashpad day you might be walking a bit further than you'd like with a buggy in tow.

Plan your visit

Is it free to get in?

Do we need to book?

Only for the relaxed splashpad sessions aimed at children with additional needs. The regular splashpad and playground are turn up and play.

What age is it suitable for?

The playground is built for children up to around 12, so it works for a decent stretch of ages.

What if it rains?

The splashpad closes in bad weather, so that part of the visit depends on the forecast. The playground and games areas are still there whatever else is on.
