What it’s like

A book shop that runs themed storytelling parties on Saturdays, plus a monthly book club and a room you can hire for your own gatherings.

Storytelling parties are the thing to know about here. Kids pick their favourite theme and build a party around it, with slots on Saturdays at 10am, 12pm or 3pm. A £50 deposit holds your spot, and it's worth knowing that's non-refundable if you cancel within 7 days of the date, so pick a date you're fairly sure of before you put money down.

Beyond parties, there's the Black Library Book Club, meeting the first Wednesday of every month from 6pm. It's £15 a month, which covers the book itself plus your seat at the discussion, so it's less an entry fee and more a subscription to turning up with something to say. There's also a Night Owls Book Club Subscription if the evening slot doesn't suit.

If you need space of your own, the Room of Requirement can be booked for meetings, studying, art exhibitions, book clubs, Dungeons & Dragons or Warhammer, and they'll accommodate out-of-hours bookings with enough notice. There's indoor seating and food on site, so a party or a book club evening doesn't have to mean rushing off straight after.

The shop's open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm, and Sundays from 11am to 5pm.
