Drop City Books
WHERE
Stoke-on-Trent
What it’s like
A small independent bookshop running storytime, book clubs, author events and the odd live performance through the week.
This is a bookshop that does more than sell books. Alongside the shelves there's storytime for younger children, book clubs for the ones who've moved on to chapter books, and author events that give kids a chance to meet the person behind the story they've been banging on about. There are performances too, so it's not always a quiet sit-and-read visit.
It's open six days a week bar Sunday and Monday, with Saturday the earliest start at 9am if you want to get in before the shop fills up. Wednesday runs an hour later than the rest of the week, which is handy if you're trying to fit a visit around school pickup or an after-work browse.
There's no age range spelled out on the events themselves. A shop like this lives or dies on its programme rather than its square footage, so the author events and performances are the bit to build a visit around rather than just dropping in on spec.

What can kids do here?
There's storytime, book clubs, author events and performances, so it ranges from a sit-down story to meeting an actual author.
What are the opening hours?
Tuesday to Friday it's 10am to 5pm, except Wednesday which runs until 6pm. Saturday opens earlier at 9am and closes at 5pm.
Do we need to book for events?
That's not something they list, so your best bet is to ask in shop or check what's coming up when you're there.
Is this suited to toddlers or older kids?
Storytime is the natural fit for younger children, while book clubs suit those already reading chapter books on their own.
