What it’s like

Guided climb over the roof of The O2 on a walkway, with a snow globe route thrown in for the theatrical version.

This is a proper climb, not a play frame. You go up a purpose built walkway over the dome itself, with the standard route or the snow globe version if you fancy something a bit more theatrical. There's also a wheelchair climb listed, which is worth knowing if that changes things for your group.

The age and height rules are strict and they mean it: every climber has to be 8 or older and at least 1.2m tall, no exceptions mentioned. Anyone aged 8 to 17 needs an adult with them, one adult can cover up to five kids, and a valid family booking is either one adult with three children or two adults with two children. Worth sorting who's coming before you book rather than after.

This isn't a stroll. It's physical, you're climbing, and if one person in your group can't do it on the day there's no partial refund and you can't just reschedule their slot. That's a harsh rule if a kid gets cold feet halfway through booking, so it's worth being honest with yourselves about who actually wants to do this before you hand over any money.

There's no toddler version here and nothing for the under-8s to do while older siblings climb, so this is really a trip built around kids who are old enough and keen enough to want the view from the top.

Need to know

Best for
8 and up; younger siblings have nothing to do here
  • The 1.2m height rule is measured strictly, so check a borderline child before you book
  • Climbing is physically demanding, not a gentle walk
  • A wheelchair climb option exists if that suits your group better than the standard route
  • No refunds if anyone drops out on the day, so confirm everyone's keen beforehand

Plan your visit

How old do kids need to be to climb?

Eight or older, and at least 1.2m tall. Both rules are firm, so no climbing if either isn't met.

Do parents need to climb too?

If your child is under 18, yes, an adult has to be with them. One adult can supervise up to five kids under 18.

What counts as a family booking?

Either one adult plus three children aged 8 to 17, or two adults plus two children.

What if one of us can't climb on the day?

There's no refund and no partial reschedule if someone in your group doesn't climb. It's an all or nothing booking.
