What it’s like

Real rock climbing, caving and gorge walking for kids five and up, with instructors qualified to work with school groups.

This isn't a climbing wall in a warehouse. It's actual gritstone crags, actual caves and actual gorges, with rock climbing, caving, abseiling, canoeing, mountain biking and guided hikes all on offer, plus the option of a Multi-Activity Day if your lot can't decide on just one thing. Everything from age five up, though the site's clear that it varies activity by activity, so what a five-year-old can do on a guided walk isn't the same as what they can do abseiling off a crag.

The bit that'll stick with them is probably the caving. Squeezing through a tunnel underground, torch in hand, beats most soft play frames for a story to tell at school on Monday. Mixed abilities in one family isn't a problem either, from what they say: on climbing days they can rig easy routes and hard ones at the same time, canoes can be lashed together for wobblier paddlers, and canyon trips let the nervous ones swim the pools while the braver kids jump in.

You can go as an Open Group and join in with other families, or book a Privately Guided Event if you want your own date and pace, and if there's four or more of you the private option often costs about the same per head. All the kit's provided, so you're not left digging out old wetsuits from the loft. Instructors are qualified and licensed to work with under-18s and school groups, which matters more here than it would at a trampoline park.

They're open every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, from 9am to 6.30pm, and there's parking at all their locations.

Plan your visit

What age can kids start?

Most activities work from age five, but it depends which one. Each activity page spells out the age it suits.

Do we need to book ahead?

There's no online booking link listed, but you can go as part of an Open Group with other families or arrange a Privately Guided Event on a day that suits you.

What if we've got mixed abilities in the family?

They say this is normal and build it into every session, easy and hard routes rigged at once for climbing, gentler pools for the nervous ones on canyon trips.

Do we need our own kit?

No, all equipment is provided.

Is parking easy?

They say there's plenty of parking at all their locations.

Are the instructors properly qualified?

They're licensed and audited by the Health and Safety Executive because they work with under-18s and school groups.
