What it’s like
Free gallery exhibitions, drop-in art workshops and oil painting courses in a step-free space near Leicester train station.
This is a small contemporary gallery rather than a big attraction, and that's the point: exhibitions change, entry is free, and there's no queue or booking system to work around. Alongside whatever's on the walls, there are free family workshops and drop-in creative wellbeing sessions, plus oil painting courses if someone in your group wants to go a bit deeper than a Saturday afternoon browse.
It's open Thursday to Saturday, 12 to 5pm, while an exhibition is running, so it's not a place to turn up to on a whim midweek. Because it's free and drop-in, it works well as a shortish stop rather than a whole day out, an hour or so to see the show and have a go at whatever workshop is on.
Getting there is easy if you're coming by train, the station is a five minute walk. Parking is pay and display on Queen Street and Southampton Street, and it's free after 6pm if you're planning your visit around the end of the day. The gallery itself is step-free, and if you need an accessible toilet, Curve and Phoenix are both under five minutes away.
There's no age range given for the workshops.
