What it’s like
Weekly arts workshops for toddlers, free monthly family sessions, and full theatre shows under one roof.
This is a proper theatre first and foremost, but there's more going on for families than just sitting through a show. Little Curve Workshops run weekly for the 18 months to 5 years crowd, creative arts sessions that count as one ticket per family group, so you and a partner can both go in without paying twice. There's also CQ Earlies, a free creative session for families with kids from 5 up, on the second Saturday of the month, which is about as good value as a day out gets.
Beyond that it's the main programme of theatre productions and performances, so if your kids are ready to sit still for a proper show, that's the bigger draw. Booking's needed for everything, and it's worth knowing tickets are non-refundable once bought. You can exchange up to 24 hours before, but they'll sting you £1 a ticket for the privilege.
Food-wise, the café does cold snacks and drinks that you're allowed to take into most shows, as long as drinks are in plastic and any hot drink has a lid on. Hot food stays out of the auditorium altogether, so don't turn up with chips. If you've got a baby, under-2s get a £2 infant ticket for selected performances rather than going in free, which catches some parents out.
The building itself is wheelchair accessible with baby change facilities on site, and Blue Badge parking is available in car parks around the city with a drop-off point on Rutland Street. Box office opens at 10am Monday to Saturday but closes on Sundays entirely, so don't try ringing on a Sunday afternoon to sort tickets for next week.
