Galleries & Exhibitions in Leicester

Leicester's own option here is Leicester Museum & Art Gallery on New Walk, and it's free. Dinosaurs, Ancient Egypt and Leicester Stories are all in, though some galleries are shut for redevelopment at the moment, so it's not the full building on a visit right now. It's an easy one to drop into for an hour without planning much around it. If you fancy a longer trip out, Derby Museum and Art Gallery on The Strand is also free, with the Joseph Wright gallery, Royal Lancers displays and a Coffee House if you want lunch there. For something less about looking at paintings and more about sitting down together, Lakeside Arts out at Nottingham's university runs family theatre shows with puppetry, live music and storytelling, better suited to an afternoon out than a quick pop-in. New Walk is the one to pick for toddlers and short visits, the other two for a fuller day.
