What it’s like

A concert hall with proper classical and family programming, plus Pay What You Can family days for a fraction of the ticket price.

This is a concert hall, not a soft play or a farm, so what you're getting is a seat, decent acoustics and a programme that ranges from big-name recitals to family concerts built for kids. The family days are the ones to look out for, they're Pay What You Can, so you can bring a family without worrying about the ticket price stacking up.

The paid concerts sit at the other end of the scale. A Paul Lewis Mozart concert runs from £15 up to £37 depending on where you sit, though students and under-18s get it for £10, which is the discount worth knowing about if you've got a teenager keen on classical music. There's also a group deal: buy 8 tickets and the 9th is free, handy if you're pulling together a few families for the same night.

Buggies get their own space right by the main entrance at family events, and baby changing is in all the toilets, so a visit with a very small one isn't the faff it can be at older venues. That buggy area isn't staffed though, so don't leave anything valuable in it, same goes for the coat storage. Wheelchair spaces are in the hall itself with level access to the box office, bar and toilets.

One thing to flag: the building's shut for Phase 1 building works over the summer, so if you're planning a visit in that window it won't be happening here.
