What it’s like

Gigs and club nights at a 14+ live music venue in Southsea, with e-tickets only and a strict no re-entry policy.

This is a gig venue first, so it's worth knowing straight off that nobody under 14 gets in, and comedy shows bump that up to 16+ while club nights are 18+. ID gets checked at the door. Bring a phone with your e-ticket loaded, because they don't issue paper tickets and won't print one for you on the night either.

Doors are usually around 7.30pm, with a first band at 8 and the headliner on for 9, though they're upfront that these times shift show to show and you should treat them as a guide rather than a promise. Weekday curfew is roughly 11pm, but Friday and Saturday run later under a late licence. Once you're in, you're in: there's no re-entry, so eat before you arrive rather than counting on grabbing food inside. Crisps at the bar are about the extent of it, aside from the odd comedy night where they serve food in a short window before the show starts.

Prices sit at £20 or £7 depending on the show, which is a decent spread for a venue this size, and you don't need to book ahead unless you want the certainty of a seat at the sold out ones. If a show does sell out, there's nothing held back for the door, so don't turn up hoping to chance it. The cloakroom is £2 an item or £3 a bag, cash only, which is an easy thing to forget when everyone's gone card-only everywhere else.

Parking's free on the side roads once the evening kicks in, Fawcett Road and Lawrence Road among them, and Albert Road frees up a bit earlier at 6pm. Fratton station is about a fifteen minute walk if you'd rather leave the car altogether.

Plan your visit

What age do you have to be to get in?

It's a 14+ venue generally, though comedy nights are 16+ and club nights are 18+. Under-14s need an accompanying adult if they're let in at all, and ID is checked on the door.

How much are tickets?

Shows are priced at either £20 or £7 depending on the night. There's no need to book in advance unless the show looks likely to sell out.

Can I bring my own food or drink?

No outside food or drink is allowed in, and there's no re-entry once you're inside. Best to eat beforehand, since the bar only really does crisps.

What if a show sells out, can I still get in on the night?

They don't hold any tickets back for door sales, so a sold out show really is sold out. Worth grabbing your e-ticket early if you know you want to go.

Where can I park?

The side roads near the venue go free after 7pm, with Fawcett Road, Lawrence Road, Harold Road and Graham Road all decent options. Albert Road frees up after 6pm, and there's a free car park at Waitrose about half an hour's walk away.
