What it’s like
Wooden towers, spiral chutes and hollow tunnels in a hillside woodland at Stonor Park, built for kids to climb and explore.
Tucked into the woods at Stonor Park, this is a climb-everything sort of place. Kids scramble up tall wooden towers, wobble across rope bridges, disappear into hollow tunnels and slide down spiral chutes, with carvings and clues from the "Tumblestone folk" dotted about for the ones who like a bit of a hunt. Smaller kids under 92cm get their own patch with a sandpit, swings, water play and a gentler climbing area, so a three-year-old isn't fighting for space with a ten-year-old who wants to launch himself down every slide twice.
It suits the whole 0 to 12 range genuinely well, though it's the 5 to 10s who'll get the most out of the towers and tunnels. There's no age limit on who plays where, the site is clear that older kids and more cautious grandparents can mix on the same structures, everyone's just asked to look out for each other. Adults on their own or in adult-only groups aren't let in though, this is a children's play area first, and they mean it.
Everything has to be booked online in advance, there's no paying on the gate, and the online price is genuinely worth chasing. Adults go from £8.50 online against £11 if you somehow rock up without a ticket, and children age 5 and over run from £9.50 online, £12 on the day. Three and four year olds get a small break at £7.50 online, £10 otherwise. Most visits run around four hours but plenty of families make a full day of it. Parking's free and folded into your ticket. The terrain is proper hillside woodland, uneven underfoot, so it's not an easy one for wheelchairs even though some areas are technically reachable.
Food's spread across a few spots: the Rumble Hut does wood-fired pizza, the Jumble Hut has gelato, milkshakes and burgers, and the Visitor Centre keeps coffee and soup going through the quieter months. You can bring your own picnic for the picnic areas, just not into the cafés themselves. Birthday parties get their own private tent with pizza, ice cream and a storybook thrown in, starting at £345 for up to 15 children and including a free adult ticket per child.
