What it’s like

Combat missions through woodland with a real helicopter and armoured vehicle as cover, played out over a two-hour session.

This isn't your average high ropes day out. It's laser combat gaming played across a woodland site scattered with genuine military props, an RAF helicopter, a Lynx helicopter, an armoured personnel carrier, even an old bus, all doubling as cover while you and your team work through one of over a thousand possible missions. It's built for the war-film-obsessed nine-year-old as much as it is for a stag do that fancies something more interesting than laser tag in a warehouse.

Sessions run two hours, though only ninety minutes of that is actual play, the rest is a safety briefing you can't skip. At £29.50 a head for pay and play, or group sessions running from £29.50 up to £59.50 for a full five hours, it's not a cheap afternoon, but the scale of the props is doing a lot of the work here. You'll need to fill in an online waiver at least 24 hours before you turn up, and they don't accommodate late arrivals, so factor in the drive through the Culham site, which takes about five minutes on its own.

Kids as young as eight can play, but eight and nine-year-olds need a playing adult with them in the gaming zones at all times, so this isn't a drop-and-go session for that age group. There's no food on site at all, not even for birthday parties, just an outdoor picnic and cake area with no shelter, so pack a lunch and hope it doesn't rain, or bring a coat if it does since the site runs all year in all weathers.

Birthday parties get their own themed missions and the birthday child gets personalised dog tags, which is a nice touch for a party format that's otherwise built around adults running around with laser guns as much as the kids are. Parking's free on site, just watch the speed limits, they're strict about 10mph on the approach and 5mph in the car park.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

£29.50 a head for a two-hour pay and play session. Group sessions go up to £59.50 for five hours.

What age can play?

From age 8, but eight and nine-year-olds need a playing adult with them in the gaming zones the whole time.

Do we need to book ahead?

Yes, and you'll need to complete an online waiver at least 24 hours before your session. Late arrivals aren't accommodated, so leave time for the drive through the site.

Is there food on site?

No catering at all, even for parties. There's an outdoor picnic and cake area but you bring your own food, and it's not sheltered.

How long does a session last?

Two hours total, with ninety minutes of actual play and a thirty-minute safety briefing beforehand.

Is there parking?

Free on-site parking. Speed limits are enforced, 10mph around the site and 5mph in the car park.

Can you do a birthday party there?

With themed missions using the real military props, and the birthday child gets their own set of personalised dog tags.

What happens in bad weather?

It stays open all year round in all weather, so it goes ahead rain or shine. The picnic and cake area is outdoors and uncovered though, so bring something to sit under if it's wet.
