What it’s like
An adults-only therapy barn on the edge of Edinburgh where you can book anything from reflexology to a Pilates drop-in under one roof.
This one's for the grown-ups. The Wellness Barn is a working treatment centre out towards Swanston, built around practitioner rooms, a studio and gym space rather than anything aimed at children, so there's no kids' programme here at all.
What you actually book is a session with a specific person. A 30 minute reflexology slot is £35, a Pilates drop-in runs £12 to £15 depending on who's teaching, and if your feet need proper attention there's chiropody at £25 or a 15 minute podiatry biomechanical assessment at £42 for something more clinical. Reiki sessions stretch from 40 to 90 minutes at £45, and a one-off personal training session is £50 if you want a push rather than a wind-down. You don't need a GP referral for most of it, though if you're claiming through health insurance it's worth sorting authorisation with your insurer first.
The building itself is step-free with wheelchair access throughout, and two parking spaces sit right by the entrance for anyone who needs to be close. Parking's free and shared with the golf club next door, which is handy if you're driving out, less so if you're relying on the bus: the nearest stop is a 15 minute walk across to Swanston Farm. Opening hours run into the evening on weekdays, Wednesday latest at 8:30pm, but Saturday and Sunday the barn shuts to regular bookings and switches over to events instead.
One thing to watch is the cancellation policy. Miss the 48 hour window and you can be charged a fee, typically £25 or your deposit, so if your week's looking unpredictable it's worth booking a slot you're fairly sure you'll keep.
