The Shoreham Centre
WHERE
Shoreham-by-Sea
What it’s like
A community venue in Shoreham hosting author talks, music and dance activities alongside half-term dance camps.
This is a community hub rather than a single attraction, and that's exactly what makes it useful on a wet Tuesday or during half-term when you need somewhere with a proper programme rather than just a soft play. The site lists classes and activities running throughout the week, plus Wordfest author events, music performances and dance activities that pop up on top of the regular schedule.
Half-term dance camps are the bit worth planning around if you've got a child who likes to move. They're not on every week, so they're the kind of thing you'd check the dates for rather than just turning up on spec. Outside of camp weeks, it is more about dropping into whatever class or talk happens to be on.
There's a café on site, The Pond Coffee Shop, for coffee and something light while you wait or between sessions. Parking is easy enough if you are quick: free on-street parking out front for the first hour, with a larger pay and display round the back if you are staying longer. If you are coming by train, Shoreham-by-Sea station is a five minute walk, and the Brighton and Hove Bus Route 2 or Stagecoach 700 will drop you on the High Street, two minutes from the door.
Opening hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm, which rules out a spontaneous weekend visit but works well if you are filling a weekday during term time or half-term.
