WHERE

Glasgow

What it’s like

A late-night music venue with weekend DJs, live gigs and comedy, not really built with kids in mind.

This one's a bit of an odd fit for a family day out list, and it's worth saying that upfront. The Record Factory runs DJs every weekend along with live music, comedy nights and screenings, which is a solid lineup if you're after a night out yourself, but it's an adult-oriented venue that stays open until 2am. That's not exactly toddler bedtime territory.

Where it might come into play for parents is the function side of things. They'll let you hire the space free of charge for events, and it holds up to 300 people, so a big family gathering or a milestone birthday for an older teenager isn't out of the question. Stage hire runs Sunday to Thursday if you want a proper set-up for a party or a performance.

There's not much here in the way of the usual family day out details. No listed opening hours for casual visits, no prices to weigh up, and nothing on food or parking to help you plan around nap times or a fussy eater. If you're picturing an afternoon out with young kids, this probably isn't it.

Where it makes sense is as a party venue for older kids and teens who'd get a kick out of a proper music venue setting, or for parents booking a function that happens to include family. Just don't expect the kind of daytime, kid-friendly programming you'd get at a dedicated family venue.

Plan your visit

Is this suitable for young children?

Not really. It's an adult-oriented venue open until 2am, so it's built more for a night out than a family afternoon.

Can we book it for a birthday party?

Yes, functions are free of charge and the venue holds up to 300 people, which suits a bigger celebration for older kids or teens.

What's actually on for kids or families?

The regular programme is DJs every weekend plus live music, comedy nights and screenings, none of which is aimed at young children.

Can we hire a stage for a performance or party?

Stage hire is available Sunday to Thursday if you want something more set up than a standard function booking.
