Red Sky Bar
WHERE
Glasgow
What it’s like
A rooftop bar with river and city views, resident DJs at weekends, and a 9pm curfew for non-resident kids.
This is one for a family evening out rather than an afternoon with the kids underfoot. Up on the roof you get panoramic views over the city and the River Clyde, cocktails and sharing plates on the table, and resident DJs playing at weekends. Children are allowed in, which is more than you can say for most bars with a drinks list like this, but non-residents under 18 get asked to leave at 9pm. If you're staying at the hotel, your kids can stay later in Skybar with you.
Tables are held for two hours, and the site says you might be able to stretch that on the day if it's quiet. Walk-ins are fine most of the time, but they're upfront that booking is a good idea at weekends and especially before a Hydro gig, when things get busy fast. After a Hydro show they stop taking bookings altogether and it's walk-in only, so turning up early is the move if you want a table with a view.
Parking's at the rear of the hotel and it's free for diners for the first two hours if you get your ticket validated at reception, then it costs after that. There's a wheelchair ramp into the hotel reception and a lift up to the bar, so access isn't an issue if you've got a buggy or need step-free routes. Dogs are welcome too, if that's part of your evening plans.
Worth knowing that the events they run are strictly over-18s, so check what's actually on before you book a family visit around one, since a regular evening and a ticketed event are two different things here.

Plan your visit
Are children allowed in?
Yes, but non-resident under-18s have to leave by 9pm. If you're a hotel resident, kids can stay later as long as an adult is with them.
Do we need to book ahead?
Not strictly, but it's a good idea at weekends and before Hydro gigs when the place fills up. After a Hydro gig they only take walk-ins, no bookings.
How long do we get at the table?
Tables are booked for two hours. You might get longer on the day if it's not busy, but that's not guaranteed.
Is there parking?
There's a car park at the rear of the hotel. Diners get the first two hours free with a validated ticket, then it's chargeable.
Is it wheelchair or buggy accessible?
There's a ramp into the hotel reception and a lift up to the bar, so it's step-free all the way.
