What it’s like

A working farm patch with a maize maze, bale mountain to climb and a pumpkin patch to pick your own from come October.

There's a proper list of things to get stuck into here. Kids can climb the bale mountain, ride the barrel train, potter about in the mud kitchens or clamber over the wooden combine harvester. Older ones will want the maize maze, and there's a duck race and face painting for when they need a change of pace. The pumpkin patch itself opens on the 3rd of October, so if that's the main event, that's the date to pin on the calendar.

It shifts with the seasons too. Spring brings an Easter trail and pick-your-own daffodils, and there's pick-your-own wildflowers as a summer draw, alongside the maize maze and its knowledge trail. That seasonal rhythm means it's worth checking what's actually running before you build a day around one specific thing.

Katherine's Kitchen does the food, hot baps, sausage rolls, cheese straws and cakes, all made with locally sourced ingredients, so lunch is sorted without needing to bring a packed one. There's a picnic area too if you'd rather bring your own and eat outside. Parking is free, and there are toilets on site, which matters more than it should when you've got small ones running about a farm.

It suits a full morning or afternoon rather than a quick stop, given how much outdoor space there is to cover between the maze, the tractors and the patch itself.
