What it’s like
Pick your own vegetables and sunflowers, then get lost in the maize maze before cake at Vera's.
The pull here is hands in the soil, not a screen in sight. You pick your own vegetables and sunflowers straight from the rows, then head off into the maize maze, which is the bit that'll get talked about on the way home. It's simple, outdoor stuff, and it works because there's nothing to queue for beyond the maze itself.
Vera's Coffee Shop is where you end up afterwards, doing breakfast, light bites, lunch and cakes most of the week. Afternoon tea needs booking ahead so the bakers can get it ready, which is a nice touch if you plan for it and a bit of a faff if you turn up expecting it on the day. There's a patio and garden area too, reached through the gate to the left of Vera's building, so you're not stuck inside if the weather's playing along.
Opening hours shift depending on the day. The farm shop and plant centre run 8am to 6pm on weekdays, a bit shorter on Saturday, and a late start of 10am on Sunday. Vera's keeps slightly different hours again.
Dogs are welcome via a separate gate to the left of the main entrance, and there's plenty of parking on site. They can also cater private functions like birthdays and christenings if you fancy turning a pumpkin patch trip into something bigger.
