What it’s like
Free gallery shows and creative workshops in a converted lock-up, though the ten stone steps to the door rule out buggies and wheelchairs.
Exhibitions change through the year, and there are creative workshops running alongside them, so a visit here depends on catching the right show. The site's currently closed until 10th October, with "The Journey" billed as the penultimate exhibition of 2026, which tells you this isn't a place you just turn up to on a whim.
Getting in is a proper climb. The main entrance is up around ten stone steps with just a hand rail for support, and there's no step-free or wheelchair access at all. That's a hard limit on who this suits: fine if you've got older kids who can manage stairs, tricky with a pushchair or if anyone in your group needs level access.
Entry's free, which softens the blow of the steps a little, and it's open Friday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm. Between exhibitions the gallery closes entirely for re-hanging, so the workshops and shows are worth timing around rather than assuming it's always on. It's walkable from the train station, about 15 minutes, and there's parking in the village if you'd rather drive.
