What it’s like

Pantomimes and plays staged by a local theatre group, with a way in for kids from age 10 who want to perform rather than just watch.

This is a proper local theatre putting on pantomimes and plays, the sort of place where the audience is half the fun because everyone's shouting "he's behind you" at the right moment. If your kids just want to sit and watch a panto, that's the simple version of the day.

The more interesting bit is that from age 10, kids can get involved in the productions themselves rather than just turning up to watch one. That's a step up from a school play, being part of an actual theatre group's show, and it's worth asking how that works if your ten-year-old has been begging for a stage of their own. It won't suit a child who wants to dip in for an afternoon, this is a proper commitment to a production.

For the younger ones, the pantomime side is the obvious pick. Panto is built for a wide age range and the jokes tend to work on two levels, one for the kids and one for the adults who brought them.
