WHERE

Rugeley

What it’s like

A local theatre and hall in Rugeley doing pantomime and family shows on one accessible level.

This is a community hall and theatre rather than a big touring venue, and that's part of the appeal if you like your panto without the West End price tag hanging over it. The building runs on one level throughout, with a mix of seating including ground-level spots, so a buggy or a wheelchair user isn't fighting stairs to get to a seat.

Arriving is straightforward: turn up in good time before the ticket time, grab a drink or something from the café, and take your seat without the usual last-minute scramble. If you need to nip out mid-show with a restless child, they'll let you back in at a sensible break rather than making you miss the rest of it.

There's a proper effort on access here. Assistance dogs are welcome if you flag it when booking, sign language interpreters are available for some performances, and staff will show you round a seat or the café and bar spaces before you commit, if you call or email ahead. Parking is free on site with 35 bays and two disabled spaces, and if that's full there are paid options a short walk away plus a bus station seven minutes off.

It's a hall that leans on community goodwill as much as production budget, so don't expect a West End set. What you get instead is somewhere local, easy to get to, and easy to get into a seat at without a fuss.

Getting there by bus or train
Rugeley Trent Valley Station 20 min walk
  • Sign language interpreters are available for some performances, not all, so it's worth flagging when you get in touch.
  • If you're in the main auditorium and bringing an assistance dog, book a seat at the end of a row in Rows G to B.
  • The nearest train stations are a 17 to 20 minute walk, so budget extra time if you're arriving by rail.
  • Arrive in good time before the ticket time rather than right on it, so you can get settled without rushing.

Yes, it's fully wheelchair accessible on one level, with accessible parking bays and a mix of seating options including ground-level spots.

Can I bring an assistance dog?

They'll happily show you a seat you're considering or the café and bar areas. Call or email ahead so someone's free to show you round.
