What it’s like

A pub theatre putting on pantomime, junior musicals like Matilda Jnr, and family film screenings.

This one's built into The Crown Wharf pub, so a trip to the theatre here comes with a proper pint and something to eat if you want it. The programme leans towards the stuff kids actually want to see: Jack and the Beanstalk gets a full pantomime run, and there's a junior staging of Matilda Jnr alongside a Chicago Teen Edition for the older end. Family film screenings sit in the mix too, so it's worth a look if a wet Saturday needs filling and nobody fancies a full-length show.

Being attached to a pub gives it a different feel from a big civic theatre. It's smaller and more local, which probably suits a first panto trip better than a huge auditorium would.

Parking's the one thing to plan around. The site itself only has limited spaces shared with the pub.10 after 6pm, which is handy for an evening show. If you'd rather skip parking altogether, the train station is a 10 to 15 minute walk and there's a bus stop right by the door.
