What it’s like
A weekly evening sing for adults at Insole Court, no audition and no need to read music.
Thursday nights at Insole Court, this is a community choir for adults who fancy singing again, whether or not they've done it since school. You turn up, you sing, you don't need to read music. The site is upfront that plenty of members can't, and there are online rehearsal tracks to help you learn your part before you get there.
It's conducted by Tim Riley, a composer and arranger who's worked with community choirs before, so this isn't a case of someone winging it with a pitch pipe. The group's a mix of people who've sung for years and people who haven't sung since assembly, and the whole thing's pitched at fun and self-development rather than polish. There are performance opportunities through the year if you want them, so it's not purely a rehearsal room exercise.
Sessions run 7:30 to 9pm on Thursdays and cost £6, which is about as low-stakes as a weekly hobby gets. There's no booking link, so this reads as a turn-up-and-join sort of choir rather than one with a waiting list or an audition process.
