What it’s like

A proper night at a Victorian theatre in Blackpool, with live performances on stage rather than screens.

This is a working Victorian theatre, so what you're booking is a seat for a live show, not a soft play or an activity centre. The building itself is part of the appeal, all ornate and old, but that history comes with a few catches you should know about before you buy.

There's no lift to the Dress Circle, Upper Circle or Gallery, so if stairs are a problem for anyone in your group, you'll want to book Stalls or check the wheelchair spaces at the back of that level. The main doors aren't automatic either, which is a small thing until you're wrestling a pushchair through them. Speaking of which, pushchairs can't come into the auditorium, but they can be left on the ground floor in the Stalls, and there's no cloakroom, so coats come in with you.

On tickets: children need their own seat from age two, and under-twos only get in if the show is offering Babes-in-Arms tickets, so that's one to check when you book rather than assume. Every ticket carries a £3.50 booking fee and a £1.50 levy on top of the face price, which stings a bit when you're buying for a few people, and there's no refunds once you've paid, so be sure of your dates. Doors open an hour before the show for the bar, then seats open thirty minutes before, and latecomers may be held until the interval, so it's worth getting there in good time rather than cutting it fine.

Box office hours run Tuesday to Saturday, 11:30am to 3pm, with an evening slot added on show nights, and it's shut Mondays when there's nothing on. December brings pantomime season, when box office hours shift around the show schedule. Parking's a short walk away at West Street Car Park, listed at £3, and assistance dogs are welcome if you flag it when booking.

Plan your visit

Do we need to book in advance?

Yes, and there's a booking fee of £3.50 per ticket plus a £1.50 levy on top of the ticket price.

Can a toddler come along?

Only if the show has Babes-in-Arms tickets for under twos on a parent's lap. From age two, children need their own paid seat.

Is there wheelchair access?

There are eight wheelchair spaces at the back of the Stalls with companion seating, reached by a platform lift through the foyer. Upper levels like the Dress Circle and Gallery have no lift access.

What time should we arrive?

Doors and the bar open an hour before the show, with seating open thirty minutes before start. Turning up late might mean waiting for the interval or getting a different seat.

Can we bring a pushchair?

Not into the auditorium, but you can leave it on the ground floor in the Stalls.

Is there parking nearby?

West Street Car Park is the nearest option, listed at £3, though that's set by a third party and can change.

What if we lose our tickets?

The box office can do a duplicate for £1.50 a ticket, capped at £6, but you'll need to show the card you paid with.

What about coats and bags?

There's no cloakroom because of the building's age, so coats and bags come into the auditorium with you.
