What it’s like
A hands-on farm where you feed goats, alpacas, rabbits and ferrets, with picnic tables outside for lunch.
You come here to get close to animals rather than just look at them. Goats push in for attention, alpacas hang about at the fence and there are rabbits and ferrets to meet too. Buy a pot of feed for a pound and the goats will decide you're their new best friend for the afternoon. Saturdays bring Bunny Brunch at 10.30am, a chance to feed treats to the smaller animals, and there are Mini Farmer Sessions and animal encounters listed too, so it's worth timing your visit around one of those if your child wants more than just wandering and feeding.
Entry is £8 for an adult and £6 for a child aged 2 to 15, with under 2s free. A family ticket for two adults and two children comes to £22, which works out cheaper than paying separately if there's four of you. There's a season pass too if you know you'll be back, priced by adult, concession, child and family.
Food is where it gets a bit fiddly. You can't eat or drink inside the centre itself, only in the picnic area outside the farm, so pack a lunch if you want to make a full morning of it rather than relying on the café for everything. Parking is free and there's a large car park on site, and if you'd rather leave the car at home the number 130 bus stops at Freemantle, a five minute walk away on pavement.
It's an outdoor farm, so wet weather changes the day. The site is upfront that wheelchairs and buggies can get round most of it when the ground is dry, but wet grass blocks off some areas, and they'd rather you rang ahead on a soggy day than turn up and find half the farm out of reach. Wash hands after touching the animals and expect the odd nip or butt from a goat with opinions, it's a working farm, not a soft play.
