What it’s like

A small gallery for a quiet browse round changing exhibitions, with a gift shop and food on site.

This is a gallery, not a hands-on activity space, so it suits a quiet stretch rather than a big day out. You wander round whatever exhibition is on, at your own pace, with no play equipment or activities laid on for children. If you've got a toddler who needs to move and touch things, this probably isn't the stop that keeps them happy for long, but it works well if you're after twenty minutes of calm between other plans, or you're bringing an older child who's genuinely curious about art.

The building itself is properly done for access: wide doorways, accessible toilets, a reception desk at a sensible height, and accessible parking spaces if you ring ahead to book one. It's also close to public transport, and on exhibition evenings there's accessible connecting transport laid on too, which suggests some visits lean towards an adult evening crowd rather than a daytime family one.

Opening hours shift through the week. Weekdays it's open from 11 to 5 (closed Tuesdays), while Saturday and Sunday it opens earlier, from 9:30. There's a gift shop to have a look through on the way out, and food available on site if you want to stop for something afterwards.
