What it’s like

Free wander round contemporary paintings, prints, photography and sculpture in a ground floor gallery just off Brighton Place.

This is a small, free gallery rather than a big day out, and it's worth treating it that way. You wander round looking at contemporary paintings, prints, photography and sculpture, currently the Summer Spritz exhibition, which has been extended to run until 13 September. There's no charge to get in, which makes it an easy detour if you're already wandering the Lanes and want ten minutes somewhere quiet and indoors.

It's all on the ground floor, no steps or ramps, with a doorway wide enough for a buggy or a wheelchair without any fuss. You can get to it step free from Brighton Place, Market Street or Meeting House Lane, so it's worth picking whichever route suits your pram or chair best.

August hours are generous: 10:30 to 5pm on Mondays, half five most weekdays, and 6pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Outside August they work by appointment, so those summer hours are the ones to bank on if you're planning a casual stop rather than a special trip.

If you're the sort of parent who fancies owning a piece of what you're looking at, they offer interest-free credit through a national scheme called Own Art, letting UK residents borrow between £250 and £5000 and pay it back over ten months. Dogs are welcome too, service animals or otherwise, which is a nice touch if the walk into town already involves the lead.
