What it’s like

Guided paddock experiences where you feed, walk and get up close with alpacas, booked in advance rather than a turn-up-and-see farm visit.

This isn't a wander-round-and-look farm. Every visit is a booked, guided experience in the paddocks, with feed supplied so you can get properly close to the alpacas rather than just point at them over a fence. There's a meet and greet, an alpaca walk, and a chance to meet the other farm animals too, all at a pace that suits nervous kids as well as confident ones, since the site is clear that nobody's rushed into anything.

Because it's fully booked rather than walk-in, there's no popping by on a whim, which is a bit of a faff if you're the spontaneous type, but it does mean you get proper guided time rather than sharing the paddock with a coachload. Under-10s need an adult:child ratio as part of the group, and anyone 15 or under needs at least one adult with them, so it's worth sorting numbers before you book.

The ground is grass and can get properly muddy in winter, and the site is honest that it's genuinely hard going for buggies or wheelchairs then, with summer the better bet if that affects you. The alpaca walk itself is over uneven ground too. Open-toed shoes aren't a great idea either, partly for mud and partly because some alpacas like to lean, rub or investigate your clothing, which is either the best bit or the bit you didn't expect, depending on your child.

There's indoor seating and toilets including an accessible one, and a gift shop if the visit needs a souvenir to round it off. No dogs on site or left in the car, and everyone who comes along is charged the experience fee, spectators included.

Plan your visit

Do we need to book?

Yes, every visit is a guided experience booked in advance. There's no turning up on the day and asking to meet the alpacas.

Is it OK for a toddler?

There's no set age limit given, but under-10s need the right adult:child ratio in the group and anyone 15 or under needs an adult with them. The alpaca walk has uneven ground, so it's more of a carry than a pushchair job.

Is it wheelchair or buggy friendly?

It depends on the season. The farm is grass-based so summer visits are easier going, and the alpaca walk route isn't buggy or wheelchair friendly at any time of year.

Are you open all year?

Seven days a week with up to two experiences a day. The meet and greets can be run undercover, so bad weather doesn't rule out a visit.

Can we bring the dog?

Dogs on site, and they ask you not to leave them in the car during your experience either.

How do we get there without a car?

The nearest bus stop is a 10 minute walk away on Gunton Road, Loddon, served by the X2, X21 and X22.
