Stoke-on-Trent Film Theatre
WHERE
Stoke-on-Trent
What it’s like
An evening screen showing Tuesday to Saturday with a proper bar open beforehand, not a multiplex.
This is a one-screen cinema with evening showings on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, starting at quarter to eight. There is no children's programme or daytime showing listed here, so treat this as an adult evening out rather than something to bring the kids to.
The bar opens at 7pm, an hour before curtain, with beers, wines, spirits, soft drinks, tea, coffee, chocolate and snacks. That gives you a proper wind-down before the film rather than a rushed dash from car to seat, which is the bit that separates this from a multiplex trip. There's no ticket price in what they publish, so budget for a normal cinema ticket plus whatever you fancy at the bar.
Getting there without a car is straightforward enough: the railway station is five minutes by taxi or half an hour on foot, and Hartshill Road has local bus routes running past. Access inside has been thought through too, with two wheelchair spaces in the auditorium, a ramp at the front, a lift to the first floor and disabled toilets on both floors. If you're on your own and using a wheelchair, the swing doors are worth flagging to staff rather than wrestling with them yourself.
