What it’s like
A working theatre with plays, concerts and exhibitions on stage, plus a café and bar to make an evening of it.
This is a proper theatre programme rather than a single attraction: plays like Romeo & Juliet, gigs and concerts, and touring exhibitions such as Oh Zeus! and Madula, all under one roof. Prices swing a fair bit depending on what you're seeing, from £5 up to £25, so it's worth picking the show first and checking what it costs before you commit to a family night out.
Doors open at 10am most days, whether or not there's a show. On performance days the building stays open right up to curtain up at 7.30pm, and you can still collect tickets for that evening right up to showtime, which takes the pressure off if you're coming straight from somewhere else.
Food-wise, the café does homemade breakfasts and light lunches through the day, then closes and reopens at 5.30pm with a pre-show menu that changes with whatever's on stage. There's a bar too, open at lunchtime and again in the evening, so a pre-theatre meal and a drink before the show is easy to build into the visit. Book the pre-show meal in advance though, it's not a turn-up-and-order situation.
One thing that'll matter to families with older teenagers: under 26s go free, which takes a decent chunk out of the cost of an evening if you've got a sixth-former keen on the theatre. Booking online carries a £1 per ticket fee, small but worth factoring in if you're getting several seats together.

How much are tickets?
It depends entirely on the show. Romeo & Juliet is £17.50, Oh Zeus! is £25, and Madula is £5, so check the specific production before you book.
Do we need to book in advance?
You can book online any time or by phone during the day. For that evening's performance you can even pick up tickets right up to showtime at 7.30pm.
Is there a booking fee?
£1 per ticket for online bookings.
What food is available?
The café does breakfasts, light lunches, cakes and snacks through the day, then a pre-show menu from 5.30pm that changes with each production. There's a bar too, open at lunchtime and in the evening.
Can we get a meal before the show?
Yes, but you'll need to book the pre-show meal in advance, either through the booking system or by phone.
Is it good value for teenagers?
Under 26s go free, which makes it a decent option if you've got an older teen keen on theatre or live music.
