What it’s like

A hireable hall in Leeds for children's birthday parties, with a bouncy castle and room for up to 40 running about.

This is a hall you hire rather than a venue you turn up to, and it's built around children's parties. The main room is a proper size, about 19.5 metres by 7.5 metres, so a bouncy castle fits with space left for games. They say it holds up to 40 pre-teens if everyone's charging around, or up to 60 if it's a calmer key stage 1 crowd or the adults are just standing about with tea.

The kitchen's decent for a hall like this: five-burner gas hob, fridge, two microwaves, two kettles and a toaster, which covers most party food needs. You do need to bring your own plates and cutlery though, which is an easy thing to forget when you're juggling the cake and the party bags. No alcohol or tobacco on site either, so this isn't the venue for a parents' glass of prosecco while the kids bounce.

Hire starts at £20 an hour, with a three-hour minimum for children's parties working out at £60, and they'd rather you booked that three hours minimum anyway. The latest you can run to is 10pm, out of consideration for the neighbours, and if you're hiring past 7pm and they don't already know you, there's a £50 bond that comes back once everything's returned in order. Parking isn't guaranteed since it's shared with other campus users, so street parking is worth having as a backup plan.

It's wheelchair accessible from both the car park and North Park Grove, with a folding ramp and an accessible toilet, and the gate's wide enough for a chair to get through without a fuss. In winter the gas boiler and fan-assisted radiators keep it at about 18°C, and they set the heating going an hour before you arrive so it's not cold when the first guests turn up.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost to hire?

£20 an hour, with a three-hour minimum preferred for children's parties, which comes to £60. If you're staying past 7pm and you're not already known to the committee, there's a £50 returnable bond on top.

Do we need to book in advance?

Yes, and a responsible adult has to do the booking. A child or young person can't legally hire it themselves.

How many people can it hold?

Up to 40 for energetic activities like a pre-teen party, or up to 60 if it's a quieter session with key stage 1 children or adults.

Is there parking?

There's off-street parking but it's shared with other campus users so it isn't guaranteed. Street parking is available as a backup.

What's in the kitchen if we want to do food?

A five-burner gas hob with a fan-assisted oven, a fridge, two microwaves, two kettles and a toaster. You'll need to bring your own plates and cutlery.

Will it be warm enough in winter?

The gas boiler and fan-assisted radiators keep it around 18°C even on cold days, and it's set to start heating an hour before you arrive.
