What it’s like
Free park with animal climbing frames, a sandpit and a wildflower meadow for wandering off the path.
There's a proper spread of things to climb on here, animal-shaped frames and a sandpit for the smaller ones, plus big swings, slides and a trim trail for anyone after more of a challenge. The grassy areas are big enough for a proper kickabout or a kite if you've picked a windy day, and there's a wildflower meadow that the site says blooms nicely from spring onward, which is worth a wander through rather than a march past.
It's free to get in and there's no booking to sort, so it works well as a turn-up-and-see kind of visit. Picnic benches are dotted about for summer, and the herb garden is a nice quiet corner if you need five minutes away from the trim trail queue. Every June there's a Summer Fayre with food, stalls and music, which is worth timing a visit around if you're nearby.
Pushchairs and wheelchairs can get round fine, though the site is upfront that it gets muddy underfoot in winter, so wellies over trainers if you're going after a wet week. Parking is the one genuine faff: it's free on Street Lane, but resident parking zones on the surrounding streets mean spaces are limited, so don't count on pulling up right outside on a busy day.
