What it’s like
Free playground with a slide, climbing frames and swings, plus open grass for football or rounders.
The playground's got the usual gang: a slide, climbing frames, balancing beams and swings, enough to keep a toddler busy while an older sibling works out how high they can get on the frame. Beyond that it's open grass, which is really the point. Bring a ball and you've got space for football, rugby, rounders or frisbee without anyone's shot ending up in a flowerbed.
There's no cost to any of it, which makes it an easy one to add to a Saturday without much planning. Picnics are allowed on the green space too, so a couple of sandwiches and a blanket covers lunch if you time it right. In summer you might catch a cricket match going on, which is a nice thing to wander over and watch for ten minutes even if nobody in your group has ever understood the rules.
It's pushchair and wheelchair friendly on a dry day, but the grass turns to mud fast once it's been raining and stays that way, so this one's better saved for the sunnier end of the week. There are no toilets on site, so factor that in if you've got a toddler mid potty training or you're planning on staying more than an hour. Dogs are welcome too, which is one more reason it works as a stop rather than a big planned outing.

Plan your visit
How much does it cost?
Nothing, it's free to get in and use.
Are there toilets?
No, there's nothing on site, so plan around that if you're out for a while.
Is it OK to bring a pushchair or wheelchair?
On a dry day. After rain the grass gets properly muddy and harder going.
Can we bring a picnic?
Picnics are allowed on the open green space, so it's an easy one to combine with lunch.
Is there anything to watch besides the playground?
Cricket matches run in the summer months, so there's sometimes a game on to watch from the grass.
