What it’s like
A hangar-and-terminal visit to see heritage aircraft up close and have a go on a flight simulator, best from age 10 up.
You wander round heritage aircraft on display, get into the art deco former hotel terminal building, and there's a flight simulator to try your hand at. The galleries add exhibits to look through if the planes alone don't hold their attention for the full visit.
This one's set at age 10 and up, and they're firm about it: it's a health and safety call, not fussiness, and they say access to the aircraft can be refused on the day if there's a safety concern. So it's not a toddler wander round old planes, more a proper outing for the ones old enough to follow instructions near real aircraft.
It only opens Saturdays, 11am to 4pm, and they want advance bookings, so this isn't one to turn up to on a whim. If a Saturday doesn't work, midweek and evening visits can be arranged by appointment. Parking is free and right next to the aircraft, which at least makes the practical bit easy.
