What it’s like
Bouldering walls for age 5 up, with a coached first session to sort footwork before anyone's let loose on the harder routes.
This is bouldering, not roped climbing, so it's shorter walls and crash mats rather than harnesses. The first visit gets you an hour of coaching plus unlimited climbing afterwards for £20, which is the sensible way in if your kid has never had their fingers on a hold before. They'll cover the basics of movement and footwork, then set them off on problems that range from complete beginner up to properly tricky.
Under 3s aren't allowed on the walls at all, and anyone aged 5 to 15 needs an adult within arm's reach, one adult per two kids at most. That's fine if it's one child and one grown-up, but it does mean two parents can't quite tag-team four kids between them. Shoes are provided.
A first visit runs £15, and after that it's £14 for an adult day pass and £10 for under 16s, with concessions at £12. If you think you'll be back, the punch card knocks the per-visit price down a fair bit over 12 sessions. Coventry's open from midday on weekdays and 10 at weekends, and there's a pay car park a few minutes' walk away rather than anything on site.
Birthday parties get an hour of climbing and half an hour for cake, up to 18 kids, with a host running things and you bringing your own cake. Parents are welcome to stay and watch from the seating, they just don't climb during the party.
