What it’s like

Wide open parkland, an 18th century walled garden, farm animals and an adventure play area, with a grand house you can tour separately.

The parkland and gardens are the main event here, and they're built for a whole day rather than a quick trot round. Kids can loose off in the adventure play area, go looking for the Royal Golden Guernsey goats and other farm animals, then wander into the 18th century walled garden, which is the sort of spot you save for after lunch when everyone's slowed down a bit. The parkland's wide open spaces mean you're not constantly herding anyone back onto a path.

You don't need a ticket at all for the Farm Shop, Coach House Café or the adventure playground, which is handy if you just fancy a coffee and a play without committing to the full gardens ticket. Parkland and Gardens entry is £12.50 for an adult and £4.50 for a child, and booking ahead is recommended in busy periods, though walk-ins get in if there's space. It's open Wednesday to Sunday until late September, then closed for an autumn break, so this isn't a year-round outing.

If you want to see inside the house itself, that's a separate ticket at £24.50 and a guided tour of about an hour, running three times a day. Worth knowing the first floor of the house isn't wheelchair accessible and pushchairs have to be left in Stone Hall, so a sling or baby harness is the better bet for that part of the visit. The Circular Walk is closed until further notice, which takes one option off the table if you were hoping for a longer loop.

Food-wise there's the Coach House Café for breakfast and lunch, plus the Farm Shop's coffee shop, and picnics are allowed out on the parkland if you'd rather bring your own. Parking is free, with accessible spaces nearer the Farm Shop entrance, and dogs are allowed in the public areas with water bowls put out at the café.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

Parkland and Gardens is £12.50 for an adult and £4.50 for a child. A house tour is a separate ticket at £24.50 for an adult.

Do we need to book?

Booking ahead is recommended for both the Parkland and Gardens and the house tours, especially in busy periods. Walk-ins are welcome if tickets are still available.

Do we need a ticket for the café or farm shop?

No ticket needed for the Coach House Café, Farm Shop or the adventure playground. You only need a ticket for the Parkland and Gardens or a house tour.

What are the house tour times?

Three tours run daily at 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm, each lasting about an hour.

Is the house fully accessible?

The ground floor rooms are accessible except the chapel, which has two steps. The first floor isn't wheelchair accessible, and house tours can sometimes be affected by weddings on site.

What can toddlers do with a pushchair?

Pushchairs have to be left in Stone Hall, so it's worth bringing a baby harness or sling for that part of the visit.

Is there parking?

Parking is free in the main car park, with accessible spaces closer to the Farm Shop entrance.

Can we bring a picnic?

Picnics are allowed out in the Parkland.

Are dogs allowed?

Assistance dogs are welcome in all public areas, and there are water bowls at the café.

When is it open?

Parkland and Gardens run Wednesday to Sunday until 27th September, with a closure for an autumn break from 28th September to 23rd October. The Farm Shop opens daily from 22nd April to 23rd December.

How long does a visit take?

Parkland and Gardens tickets give all-day access, so you can take it slowly. A house tour on top of that runs about an hour.

Is there wheelchair access?

Two manual wheelchairs can be borrowed if you book ahead by phone, and the ground floor of the house is accessible bar the chapel. There's no Changing Places toilet on site.
