What it’s like

Kids from 5 up paint pottery, squish foam clay onto pieces, or build clay creatures, with birthday parties laid on too.

This one's for the paint-and-glaze crowd rather than toddlers. The workshops start at age 5, so it's not a place to fill an afternoon with a three-year-old, but for a five to ten-year-old who likes making a mess in a controlled way, there's a proper choice: pottery painting on mugs and trinket dishes, a foam clay workshop where they decorate a piece with textured putty clay, or a clay modelling session building their own creature. The pottery wheel gets a mention too, which is probably the bit an older kid will bang on about afterwards.

Prices split by activity rather than one flat entry fee. The foam clay workshop is £17, the clay monster session £25, and that gap is worth knowing about before you pick one on the phone or in person, since it's not a small difference for what sounds like a similar sort of session. Booking isn't essential, they say, but it's recommended, which in practice usually means turning up on spec at a weekend in the school holidays is a bit of a gamble.

Summer holiday hours run Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm, with Wednesdays and Saturdays stretching to 5pm and Sundays a shorter 11am to 4pm. Birthday parties are clearly a big part of what they do here: a kids pottery painting party is £210, which covers the pottery, the room hire and a personalised keepsake for each child to take home. That's the whole package rather than a per-head add-on.

Adults get their own version too, for a hen do or a girls' night rather than a kids' party, with £35 room hire plus £20 a head. It's a sit-down, focused sort of activity rather than one where the kids charge about, so plan the visit around a workshop slot rather than turning up expecting to browse.

Plan your visit

What age is it suitable for?

The kids workshops are aimed at age 5 and up. It's a sit-down painting or clay session, so younger ones would likely find it a struggle to sit still through it.

How much does it cost?

The foam clay workshop is £17, the clay monster workshop £25. Kids birthday parties are £210 for the pottery, room and a keepsake.

Do we need to book ahead?

Booking isn't essential but they recommend it. Weekends in the school holidays are the times you'd most want a slot secured.

What can kids actually make?

They can paint a mug or trinket dish, decorate a piece with foam clay putty, or model their own clay creature. There's also pottery wheel sessions on offer.

What's included in a birthday party?

The £210 kids party covers the pottery painting itself, the room hire and a personalised keepsake for each child.

What are the opening hours?

In the summer holidays it's 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and 11am to 4pm on Sundays.
