WHERE

Newbridge

What it’s like

A big Newbridge showground that hosts different exhibitions and events, so what's on changes visit to visit.

This is a showground rather than a single attraction, so what you actually do there depends on whichever exhibition or event has booked the halls that weekend. One month it might be a touring show with hands-on bits for kids, another month something aimed more at adults, so it's the specific event you're going for that decides whether it suits your children, not the venue itself.

What you can rely on is the site itself being properly accessible if that matters to you. Blue badge parking is free and you don't need to book it ahead, there's a hearing loop, baby changing and Changing Places facilities on site. It's not flawless though: the accessible toilet in Highland Hall can be too small for a wheelchair user with a companion, the second floor of Highland Hall has no accessible toilet at all, and there's no ramp into Central Hall from the east side, so if you're navigating with a wheelchair it's worth knowing which hall you're actually heading for.

Dogs are assistance dogs only, kept under control of the handler. If you're coming without a car, the Ingliston Park and Ride is a couple of kilometres off and there's a bus stop at Eastfield Road not far from that, plus tram links from Edinburgh Gateway and Edinburgh Park if you're coming from town.

Because this is a venue for hire rather than a fixed attraction, treat any visit here as tied entirely to whatever's booked in on the day. Look up what that specific event involves before you go, since that's what will actually tell you the ages it suits, how long you'll be there, and what there is to eat.
