What it’s like
A free paddling pool and ballpit run entirely by volunteers, open from late May to mid-September.
Splashing about is the whole point here: a paddling pool and a ballpit, nothing more complicated than that. It's free to get in, which makes it an easy one to add to a list for a warm afternoon without worrying about the cost of the day.
It's volunteer run rather than council or commercially staffed, which shows up in a couple of ways. It's closed on Wednesdays during the regular season, so that's one day to cross off if you're planning a week around it. And because it depends on donations and fundraising to keep going, don't expect anything flashy. It's a straightforward pool doing a straightforward job.
The season runs late-May to mid-September, and when the pool itself isn't running as a splash session, they put on Doggy Splash Days instead. Dogs are welcome there but you'll need a ticket for them. There's food available on site, so you're not stuck planning snacks around the visit.
