What it’s like

A paddling pool, ball games space and a playground with a DDA swing for under-13s, all in one recreation ground.

The paddling pool is the obvious pull once the weather turns, and it sits alongside a playground built for all ages rather than one age group squeezed into a corner. There's a separate play area for under-13s with a DDA compliant swing seat and a basket swing, which is a nice touch if you've got a child who needs that kind of equipment and usually can't find it.

Beyond the pool and the play areas there's open space for ball games, so it's not a one-trick visit if the paddling pool queue is long or the kids want to run about with a football instead. The site is open 9am to 5pm as a typical day, though it's locked at night and the exact locking time shifts with the season, so don't plan on lingering past dusk without checking when you arrive.

Getting there is straightforward if you're not driving: Barnes and Barnes Bridge stations are both nearby, and the 33, 72 and 265 buses stop close by too. If you are driving, there's a car park with a disabled bay, and the toilets on site include an accessible one, which makes this an easier stop than a lot of recreation grounds if you're pushing a wheelchair or a buggy.
