What it’s like

A walk-in pub and restaurant by the river with a proper kids' menu, crayons at the table, and a garden to spread out in.

This is a pub and restaurant on the water rather than a soft play or an attraction, so the appeal for kids is more about a relaxed meal out than anything to climb on. There's a children's menu at the bar, plus kids' cutlery and crayons on the table, which buys you a bit of time before anyone gets restless. Under-16s are welcome, but only until 9pm, so it's really a daytime or early-evening plan rather than a late one.

The food side is the strong point: home-made pies, Sunday roasts, street-food style dishes, and proper vegetarian and vegan options too. If anyone in your group has allergies, the menu descriptions don't list every ingredient.

The one faff is that you can't book a table. It's walk-in only, though they do have the whole ground floor plus a garden area, so a big group turning up unannounced isn't the disaster it might be elsewhere. There's no car park either, just street parking nearby, which is worth bearing in mind if you're coming with a buggy and bags in tow.

If you're planning a party, there are three spaces to hire: the Snug for smaller groups, a section of the garden called the Courtyard, and Angels' Share for bigger do's up to 60. Room hire is free with a £60 deposit that comes off your food and drink bill, and buffet packages start from £16 a head.
