What it’s like

An adults-focused bookshop with evening author talks, low lighting and a free drink on arrival, plus book groups covering everything from horror to queer literature.

This one's built around evening events rather than daytime browsing with kids in tow. You turn up between 6:30 and 7pm, get a free drink, settle into whatever seating's out that night and listen to a host introduce an author, then a reading, then a proper conversation before the audience gets to ask questions. There's a book signing after, and copies to buy. It wraps up by 8 or 8:30, so you're looking at a solid hour and a half to two hours out.

The book groups are the other strand: Juno Reads for general fiction, Horror, SheffFood, Sex Ed and Queer, each one ticketed in advance with the book included in the price. If you've already got a copy, there's usually a reduced ticket instead. The space is small, capped at 25 for evening events, which is exactly why it feels less like a lecture and more like sitting in someone's front room with an author who happens to be good at talking.

Daytime hours run Tuesday to Friday and through the weekend, closed Mondays, and it's step free throughout with a wide door if you're wheeling anything in. Dogs are welcome too, assistance dogs especially. The one snag is the toilet isn't accessible, which is worth knowing if that's a dealbreaker for your visit.
