What it’s like
A steam train ride along the North Norfolk coast, with spotter trails and model railways to hunt down at either end.
The train itself is the point here. You hop on at Sheringham, Weybourne or Holt and let a proper steam locomotive do the work, with journeys between stations running from around 10 to 25 minutes depending which stretch you pick. Day Rover tickets let you hop on and off all day, so you can break the trip up rather than sitting still for one long ride, which matters if you've got a three-year-old who's had enough after twenty minutes.
Younger passengers get an interactive trail to work through and there are free activity sheets year-round, with more laid on during school holidays through the Morgan's Explorers programme. Model railways are another draw, though it's worth knowing the one at Weybourne is closed for refurbishment from September 2026, so time your visit around that if it's the bit your child cares about most.
Parking at Weybourne is genuinely tight, and the railway itself suggests arriving by train instead, which is a slightly odd thing for a railway to have to say but fair enough given the space. Sheringham station has proper mainline links too, a two-minute walk from the heritage platform. Every station has accessible toilets and step-free access, and wheelchairs and prams travel in the Guard's van rather than at your seat.
One rule that catches people out: every child under 16 needs a fare-paying adult with them, so this isn't a drop-and-go for older kids on their own. If you fancy a dining train, book ahead, as those need advance booking and dogs aren't allowed on them or on some of the special services like the Santa Specials and Norfolk Lights Express.
