What it’s like
An hour on an open boat out to Blakeney Point to see grey and common seals hauled out on the sandbanks.
You get on an open boat at Morston Quay and head out to Blakeney Point, where the seal colonies haul out on the sandbanks. The crew talk you through what you're looking at, including the old Blakeney Lifeboat station on the way, and there's usually plenty of bird life to spot too since the Point is one of the more important stops for migrating birds in Europe. The whole thing runs about an hour, which feels about right for the age group who'll sit still for it and not much longer for anyone who won't.
The boats are open with no cover, so check what the weather's doing before you commit, and there's no toilet on board either, just limited facilities back on the quay. Trips run around the tides rather than the clock, so times shift daily and you're asked to get there half an hour before departure. Seats are properly limited too, so if you're set on a particular day, phone ahead rather than hoping to walk up.
It's £20 for an adult and £10 for anyone 14 and under, paid on the day when you collect tickets at the quay, not in advance. Booking itself is by phone only, and while you can sometimes get a spot on the day, weekends and holidays fill up fast so a few days' notice is the safer bet. There's a National Trust car park right by the quayside, pay and display unless you're a member, and the Coast Hopper bus stops in the village a short walk away. Dogs are welcome on board too, which is a nice touch if you'd normally have to leave one behind.

How much does it cost?
£20 for an adult and £10 for a child aged 14 or under. You pay on the day at Morston Quay when you collect your tickets, not when you book.
Do we need to book in advance?
Booking is by phone only. You can sometimes get on the day, but weekends and holidays get busy, so a few days ahead is the safer bet.
How long does the trip last?
A seal trip on its own runs for about an hour.
Are the boats covered?
No, they're open boats, which gives you a clearer view of the seals but no shelter if the weather turns.
Are there toilets on board?
The boats aren't big enough for them. There are toilets on Morston Quay and on Blakeney Point itself.
Is there parking?
A National Trust car park sits right by the quayside, pay and display unless you're a National Trust member.
Can we bring the dog?
Dogs are welcome on board.
