Pinewood Miniature Railway
WHERE
Wokingham
What it’s like
A ride-on miniature railway with woodland walks, a playground and pond dipping, but only open one Sunday a month.
The main event is a loop round the miniature railway, small enough that even a wobbly toddler can hang on for the whole ride. Once you're off the train there's a woodland walk to stretch legs on, a playground to climb about on, and pond dipping if anyone's brought a net or fancies borrowing one. It's the sort of visit where the train ride is over in minutes but the rest fills a good afternoon.
The catch is the calendar. This only opens on the third Sunday of the month from March to October, plus the third Sunday in November, so it's not somewhere you can just decide to pop into on a whim. Once you're there though, parking is free and there's a proper car park on site, which takes one thing off the list of things to worry about.
Birthday parties get exclusive use of the railway for two hours, room for around 20 children and about 30 rides between them, which sounds like plenty until you remember it's a popular slot. The site mentions a waiting list for party bookings, so if a birthday's coming up it's not something to leave to the last fortnight.

When is it open?
The third Sunday of the month from March to October, 1:30pm to 4pm, plus the third Sunday in November from 11am to 3pm.
Do we need to book?
There's no booking link listed, so it sounds like you turn up on the day it's open.
Is there parking?
Yes, a large free car park on site.
Can we book a birthday party?
You get exclusive use of the railway for two hours, with room for around 20 children and about 30 rides. Bookings tend to have a waiting list, so ask early.
What else is there to do besides the train?
A woodland walk, an adventure playground and pond dipping, so the visit stretches well past the ride itself.
