What it’s like
Adults-only hand tool woodworking courses, from one-day router skills to a 12-week evening box making course.
This one's for the grown-ups. It's a proper woodworking school running courses on hand tool technique, from a single day learning router skills to a full 2 day introduction to fine woodworking and a 12-evening box making course that runs weekly on Tuesdays from 6.30 to 9pm. Under 18s aren't allowed on any course, the insurance doesn't stretch that far, so this is one to book for yourself rather than as a family activity.
The prices tell you this is a serious hobby, not a taster session. The router course is £195 for the day, the 2 day fine woodworking introduction is £295, and the box making course comes in at £440 across its 12 evenings, which works out reasonably once you factor in how much tuition you're getting. All tools are provided, so you turn up empty-handed and leave with actual skills and, on the box making course, an actual box.
Booking has to go through email rather than online, which is a small faff in 2024 but at least means a human replies with the details. Do read the cancellation terms before you commit: pull out with 2 to 6 weeks notice and you lose half your fee, leave it under 13 days and you lose the lot. Parking on site is free, and for lunch you're on your own, bring sandwiches or nip out to one of the nearby options, though tea and biscuits are provided throughout.
Complete beginners are welcome on the 2 day introduction. If you've been meaning to learn proper joinery rather than just watching it on YouTube, this is the sort of course that actually gets you there.
