What it’s like

Adults-only print studio in Leeds, open to members over 16 for etching, screen printing and press work.

This one's for the grown-ups. Leeds Print Workshop is a members' print studio, and they're clear on it: workshops are for adults over 16 only, a health and safety call rather than a preference, so there's no version of this for kids.

Access runs on a set pattern rather than a drop-in whenever you fancy it: Fridays, Sundays and the first Saturday of the month from 10am to 4:30pm, plus Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 9pm. That's member access. Membership is £60 a year, which breaks down to a fiver a month, and there's a cheaper £40 student and graduate rate if that applies to you.

Once you're in, you can either bring your own materials or buy inks and paper on site, which is handy if you're starting from scratch and don't want to lug a bag of supplies across town. It's a walk from either of the main transport hubs, ten minutes from the bus station or twenty from the train station, and there's on-street pay-by-phone parking nearby that goes free after 6pm and all day Sunday, plus one blue badge space on Rider Street if you need it.

The set access hours are the bit that takes some getting used to. It's not a walk-in studio you can pop into on a whim, so a Wednesday evening or one of those weekend slots needs to go in the diary rather than the maybe pile.

Plan your visit

Is this suitable for kids?

No, it's adults only. Workshops are restricted to over-16s for health and safety reasons, so there's nothing here for children.

Do I need to be a member to use the workshop?

Access is described as member access across all the listed opening times, so membership looks like the way in rather than a casual drop-in.

How much does membership cost?

£60 a year for standard membership, which works out at £5 a month. Students and graduates get it for £40 a year.

When can I actually go and print?

Fridays, Sundays and the first Saturday of the month from 10am to 4:30pm, or Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 9pm. Outside those windows, you're out of luck.

Is there parking nearby?

On-street pay-by-phone parking on St Mary's Lane and St Mary's Street, free after 6pm and on Sundays. There's also one blue badge space on Rider Street.

Can I buy materials there or do I need to bring my own?

They sell a selection of inks and paper on site, but you're also welcome to bring your own materials in.
