What it’s like

Free drop-in sessions for kids, from Lego building to storytime, in a small Nottingham library with no booking needed.

Four regular sessions run through the week here: Totstime Fun for the younger ones, a Children's Storytime, a Lego Club, and Saffron Science Club for anyone who fancies a bit of hands-on experimenting. None of them cost anything, which makes this an easy one to slot into a week without checking your bank balance first.

The building itself is straightforward, wheelchair accessible with its own accessible toilet, and there's wifi if you need to sit and do something else while the session runs. It won't take up your whole afternoon. A storytime or Lego Club session is the sort of thing you pop into for half an hour or so and come out again, rather than a day out in itself.

Opening hours are a bit patchy, worth knowing before you plan around it. It's open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10.30am to 5.30pm, and Saturday mornings only until 2pm. Tuesdays and Sundays it's shut altogether, so that's two days off the list straight away.

There's no booking link listed, so the sessions read as drop-in rather than something you need to reserve a place for in advance. That's handy if your week never quite goes to plan, though it also means there's no guarantee of a spot if a session turns out to be popular.
