What it’s like
Free outdoor park with a play yard of six slides built around a daylighted stretch of the River Medlock.
The play yard is the reason to come. Six slides cluster round a stretch of the River Medlock that's been brought back up to the surface, so there's water to look at as well as slides to queue for. It's outdoor and free to get into, which makes it an easy one to add to a longer day in the city rather than a whole outing on its own.
Toilets sit right next to the Play Yard and they're accessible with a baby changing unit, so that bit's sorted. There are water refill stations dotted round the wider park too, worth knowing if you've forgotten bottles. Picnics are allowed, which suits a park like this, though there's nothing on the fact sheet about food stalls on site, so pack what you need.
Dogs are welcome round the park generally but they're not allowed in the Play Yard itself, which is a fair rule if you've got a toddler underfoot and a boisterous spaniel on a lead. The listed hours say 5am to 9pm every day, but the site's own FAQ says it actually closes after sundown, so in winter that's going to be a lot earlier than 9pm. Worth bearing in mind if you're planning a summer evening visit versus a dark December one.
