What it’s like
Speedboat trips from Newhaven Marina under the Seven Sisters chalk cliffs, from a 40-minute RIB blast to a sunset cruise.
This is boat trips run out of Newhaven Marina, with the white chalk cliffs of the Seven Sisters as the main event. The classic Seven Sisters Boat Tour takes you along the coast for sea views of the cliffs, and there's cold water swimming underneath them if anyone fancies it. For more speed there's the Rapid Rib, a 40-minute ride with classic rock playing while you bounce along Seaford Bay, and if you'd rather watch the sun go down there's a one-hour sunset cruise along the same stretch of water.
Prices start at £25 for the Double Donut inflatable tube ride and run up to £42.40 for an adult on the Seven Sisters tour, with a family pack (two adults, two children) at £148.40. That family pack takes the sting out of it a bit if you're a four, but it still isn't a cheap afternoon. Kids from age 2 can go on the main boat tour, though the jet ski safari is a different story: you need to be 21 to drive one solo, and 12 to ride pillion with an adult.
These are open RIB boats, so expect sea spray on a windy day and pack a waterproof jacket rather than your good coat. Soft shoes or flip flops are the rule, no heels or heavy boots, and bare feet are fine too. Food and drink are allowed onboard and picnics are actively encouraged if you've booked a private charter, which is a nice touch given there's nowhere to eat on site.
Turn up in good time. They run trips back to back all day, so a late arrival means missing your slot with no refund, and they ask you to arrive a full 30 minutes early to deal with parking and toilets first. There are no toilets at the marina itself, just ones on Fort Road a couple of minutes' walk away, so sort that out before you're stood on the quay.
Facilities
Need to know

Plan your visit
How much does it cost?
The Seven Sisters Boat Tour is £42.40 for an adult and £37.10 for a child aged 2 to 12, or £148.40 for a family pack of two adults and two children. Cheaper options start at £25 for the Double Donut inflatable ride.
What age can children go on the boat trips?
The main Seven Sisters Boat Tour takes children from age 2. The jet ski safari is different, you need to be 21 to drive solo or 12 to ride as a passenger with an adult.
Will we get wet?
Not on every trip, but these are open RIB boats so sea spray is more likely on windy days. A waterproof jacket is a sensible call, especially in winter.
Do we need to book ahead?
The site doesn't mention walking up, and trips run back to back all day with no refunds for late arrivals, so it is sensible to sort your slot before you turn up.
Where do the boats leave from and is there parking?
Boats depart from Newhaven Marina, BN9 9BY. There's paid parking on West Quay road via the PopPay app using site code 10100, or free parking on Fort Road, about a two minute walk away.
Are there toilets at the marina?
No, the nearest toilets are on Fort Road, about two minutes' walk from the boat.
Can we bring food and drink?
Food and drink are welcome onboard. A picnic is a good shout if you've booked a private charter.
What should we wear?
Soft shoes like trainers or flip flops, no heels or heavy boots, bare feet are also fine. Bring something warm in colder months or suncream and a swimsuit in summer if you fancy a swim.
How long does the jet ski safari take?
It's an hour and a half in total, with a 30-minute safety brief followed by an hour on the water.
